Parson's Pizzas - Winners
Sir Charles Parsons School
Parson’s Pizzas is a school business that enables pupils at Sir Charles Parson’s School to gain new skills and prepare for life after school. It also raises awareness of the potential of special school students and challenges negative attitudes.
After winning the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in the national finals of the Skills Factor, and an award at the Newcastle Enterprise Awards 2010, it’s clear that Parson’s Pizzas have found a winning recipe.
Awards won: Star Pupils & Lord Mayor’s Enterprise Award, Newcastle Enterprise Awards
Year of winning: 2010
“We have had an amazing time setting up and running Parson's Pizzas, with help from Shirley at NEBP, and Steve from Pizza Express. It involved lots of hard work and learning lots of new things. It was fantastic to receive the Star Pupils and Lord Mayor's Enterprise awards as it made us feel that our business was being recognised and our hard work rewarded by real business people. We were really encouraged that the decisions we had made and the way the business was run had impressed the judges. We also felt that it would give us lots more confidence to talk about our enterprise skills and experience outside of school, especially after we leave. Attending the event on the night was amazing, the decorations, the meal and going up on stage to collect the trophies was a whole new experience for us. Meeting lots of new people and finding out about their businesses, as well as telling them about Parson's Pizzas was something we enjoyed, although we were a bit nervous at first.”
