Press release: Newcastle’s business winners are celebrated

9th October. The winners of the first ever Newcastle Enterprise Awards have been announced at a glittering evening ceremony.

Hundreds of representatives from the city’s business community gathered at Newcastle Civic Centre on Friday (October 8) to find out which businesses had won the honours across 11 awards. 
 
These special Awards were launched to celebrate the achievements, talents and passion of the brightest new and established entrepreneurs in the city, as well as those who might have helped them to succeed, such as mentors, support staff and even friends.
 
Among the winners on the night were pupils from Sir Charles Parsons School, in Walker, who two awards for their pizza-making business, Parsons Pizzas.
 
As well as the Star Pupils award, Parson’s Pizzas walked away with The Lord Mayor’s Enterprise Award, a special honour created by The Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne for someone she believed deserved recognition for their contribution to enterprise. Claire Todd, a teacher at the school was also recognised in the business support category as the ‘Shining Light for Youth Development’.
 
Other notable prize winners on the night were Rebecca Casey from Sole Searchers who won the Star Beginner award and PopUp Initiative who won the Star Collection award.
 
Rebecca said “Sole Searchers is delighted to have received the Star Beginner award. It is especially rewarding to receive this kind of support and affirmation from business people right here in the North East. Winning this award has given us a huge confidence boost to really go for it.”
 
Will Marshall of PopUp Initiative said: "We are overjoyed to have received the Star Collection award as part of the Newcastle Enterprise Awards. It is fantastic to be recognised for the value of our work in the local community and to be presented with an award has instilled a sense of confidence and pride in our organisation. We feel that the event has opened doors to many new opportunities and has raised our profile as a new and exciting cultural asset for Newcastle and the region."
 
The Newcastle Enterprise Awards are co-funded by the Government through Solutions for Business and the European Regional Development Fund and are part of the Newcastle Enterprise Package - a range of business support activities by Newcastle City Council.
