Press release: New awards celebrate enterprise in Newcastle

2nd July. Newcastle is bursting with business talent – and now an exciting new awards scheme is aiming to prove it.

The Newcastle Enterprise Awards are scouring the city to find the best examples of excellence in enterprise, as part of the Newcastle Enterprise Package - a range of business support activities by Newcastle City Council.

The idea is to celebrate the achievements, talents and passion of the brightest new and established entrepreneurs in the city, as well as those who might have helped them to succeed, such as mentors, support staff and even friends.

It all begins at the Centre for Life, on Friday 9 July, when the Awards will be launched, with a call for entries across a range of categories.

“These awards are intended as a celebration of the passion, talent and success we see in enterprises across Newcastle,” said Karen Langdon, of DEAL Group, who are organising the awards on behalf of the Newcastle Enterprise Package.

“Here’s a city that is flourishing with fresh business talent and, in the context of such a tough economy, it’s more important than ever that we recognise people for their contributions, achievements and entrepreneurial spirit.”

“Whether you’re planning an enterprise, setting it up, or have hit the ground running, then one of the Newcastle Enterprise Awards could have your name on it.”

The Awards are open to all those who pay either council tax or business rates to Newcastle City Council, or support those who do, and are divided into three categories – Enterprise/Business Journey Awards (individual, group or enterprise); Enterprise/Business Supporters Awards (individual); and the Lord Mayor’s Enterprise Award (individual, group, business or organisation) for improving the environment in Newcastle.

All online entries must be received before 14 August 2010. So if you, or anyone you know, is involved in social enterprise, enterprise in education, community enterprise or private business, please visit www.newcastleenterpriseawards.co.uk and find out how to become part of these prestigious awards.

The Awards are co-funded by the Government through Solutions for Business and the European Regional Development Fund.
